TPAR for builders and trades

If your business is in building and construction and pays contractors, you probably need to lodge a taxable payments annual report (TPAR) with the ATO by 28 August each year.

Who lodges

Businesses that provide building and construction services and make payments to contractors for those services, plus several other industries (cleaning, couriers, road freight, IT, security and others).

What to report

  • Each contractor’s ABN, name and address.
  • Gross amount paid for the year, including GST.
  • GST included.

Tips

  • Collect ABNs and addresses at onboarding, not at year end.
  • Use your accounting software’s TPAR report and check contacts are flagged as contractors.
  • Keep it consistent with your contractor vs employee decisions.
